Senegal

Senegal aspires to become an emerging country by 2035. The country has experienced low growth since 2006, however, averaging only 3.3% per year. Within Senegal, poverty remains high at 46.7%, and the number of poor rose during the 2006-2011 period. Given an estimated annual population growth of 2.5%, GDP growth remains well below the rate necessary for significant poverty reduction.

The IDA-funded West African Agricultural Productivity Program provides one-time subsidies on the sale of almost 2,000 tons of maize, millet, and sorghum seeds in Senegal. The seeds are guaranteed to produce higher yields, be more drought-resistant, and have shorter maturity cycles.
